Heinrich Heine (born Dec. 13, 1797, Düsseldorf [now in Germany]—died Feb. 17, 1856, Paris, France) was a German poet whose international literary reputation and influence were established by the Buch der Lieder (1827; The Book of Songs ), frequently set to music, though the more sombre poems of his last years are also highly regarded.
Heinrich Heine was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, to assimilated Jewish parents. Heine’s uncle was a powerful banker who supported Heine for much of his life, only to write him out of his will. Heine attended university in Bonn, Göttingen, and Berlin, ostensibly studying law but in truth focusing his efforts and attention on poetry and literature.
Heinrich Heine unternahm viele Reisen, vor allem in Metropolen wie Paris, Florenz oder London. Über seine Reisen schrieb er in "Reisebilder", die sich durch sachliche, aber auch ironische Schreibweise auszeichneten. Das "Buch der Lieder" ist eine Gedichtsammlung von Heinrich Heine.
