The film was based on a novel by Edward Anderson, and in 1974 was filmed by Robert Altman under its original title, Thieves Like Us.

The 1080p/24hz high-definition presentation comes from a new 2K restoration scanned from the safety fine-grain positive made from the original negative.
In the ’40s, three prisoners flee from a state prison farm in Mississippi. Among them is 23-years-young Bowie, who spent the last seven years in prison and now hopes to be able to prove his innocence or retire to a home in the mountains and live in peace together with his new love, Keechie.
“They Live By Night” is “Bonnie and Clyde” for the soft boys and girls out there. Less icy cool and more wide-eyed melodrama, director Nicholas Ray’s lovers on the run noir is an earnest early take on doomed amorous criminals.
