Tutored in the arts of royal womanhood, they were trained from infancy in the skills vial to a regal wife but as the king’s illness ravaged him, husbands and opportunities slipped away.
All of George III and Queen Charlotte's children had drawing lessons as part of their education, but their daughters in particular spent much of their time engaged in artistic pursuits. Queen Charlotte also drew throughout her childhood and into old age and spent many hours a day with her daughters engaged in artistic activities.

Princess Amelia was born on 7 August 1783, at the Royal Lodge, Windsor, the youngest of George III and Queen Charlotte's fifteen children and was christened at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace on 17 September 1783. Amelia was said to be her father's favourite child, George III affectionately called her 'Emily'.
