Maria Theresia is the eldest child and daughter of Johannes, 11th Prince of Thurn and Taxis and his wife Gloria, Princess of Thurn and Taxis (née Gräfin von Schönburg-Glauchau). [ citation needed ] Maria Theresia's family's lands form one of the largest private estates in Europe.
Upon their marriage she became the Hereditary Princess of Thurn and Taxis. When her father-in-law, Karl August, 10th Prince of Thurn and Taxis, died in 1982 her husband became the 11th Prince of Thurn and Taxis. The couple had three children: Princess Maria Theresia Ludowika Klothilde Helene Alexandra, born 28 November 1980 in Regensburg.
