Titus Welliver est né à New Haven dans une famille d'artistes. Son père, Neil Welliver (en), était un peintre paysagiste renommé et sa mère, Nora Cripps, une illustratrice de mode 1. Il a eu trois frères dont deux sont décédés, l'un, Silas, d'une forme de dystrophie musculaire et l'autre, Eli, tué en Thaïlande 2.

His fourth wife, a film producer Elizabeth W. Alexander, died of breast cancer in 2012, leaving him widowed. Titus has two boys with Heimbold and a daughter with Alexander.
