Lucy Hemings (1777–1786), whose father was believed to have been a slave. In the last decade of her life, Betty Hemings had her own cabin at Monticello, from 1795 to 1807.

Harriet Hemings (May 1801 – after 1822) was born into slavery at Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States, in the first year of his presidency. Most historians believe her father was Jefferson, who is now believed to have fathered, with his slave Sally Hemings, four children who survived to adulthood.
Betty Hemings is a part of US Black history. According to her grandson, Madison Hemmings (1805-1877), Elizabeth Hemings was born to a "captain of an English trading vessel" and a "fullblooded African" woman. Her father was Capt John Hemings and her mother was Biabaye Eppes (1717-1807). She was the property of John Wales, a Welshman. [1]
James Hemings (1765–1801) was the first American to train as a chef in France. Three-quarters white in ancestry, he was born into slavery in Virginia in 1765. At eight years old, he was purchased by Thomas Jefferson at his residence of Monticello . He was an older brother of Sally Hemings and a half-sibling of Jefferson's wife Martha Jefferson.

Sally's father doubled as their (Sally and Betty’s) master John Wayles. Betty's parents included another enslaved woman, a "full-blooded African,” and John Hemings, an English sea captain.
