Maria Feodorovna was born as Marie Sophia Frederika Dagmar on November 26, 1847, at Gule Palace, Copenhagen, Denmark. She was the fourth child of her parents, then Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, and his wife Princess Louise of Hesse-Kassel.
