Liszt Ferenc 1858-ban (Franz Hanfstaengl fényképe) Liszt Weimarban mint udvari karmester dolgozott, évente három hónapi szolgálati idővel. A fennmaradó idővel tetszése szerint rendelkezhetett. Ezekben az években – Raabe adatai szerint – Liszt 1858-ig évi 1660 tallért kapott, 1000 illetve 330 talléros részletekben.
