John Stewart (7th Earl of Galloway) was born on March 13, 1736 in Wigtownshire, Scotland, son of Sir Alexander Stewart and Lady Catherine Cochrane. He was married on June 13, 1764 in Westminster, Middlesex, England to Anne Kirtlington DASHWOOD Stewart (Countess of Galloway), they had 15 children.
