  2. 13 de feb. de 2023 · James K. Polk was the 11th President of the United States, serving from 1845 to 1849. He was born on November 2, 1795, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Polk was a Democrat who is best known for his expansionist policies and belief in Manifest Destiny which led to the Mexican-American War and the annexation of Texas, California, and much of the Southwest.

He so strongly supported Jackson's initiatives that his colleagues nicknamed him "Young Hickory." In 1839, he was elected governor of Tennessee. When Polk ran for reelection in 1841, it was a bad time to be a Democrat.
