Like their older brother, Richard (1726-1799) and William (1729-1814) were destined for military service from a young age. The former joined the Royal Navy in 1740 and the latter the Army in 1746, both seeing service in The War of Austrian Succession and the French and Indian War.

13 de nov. de 2011 · William Howe, commander in chief of the British army in North America during the War of Independence, was born on August 10, 1729, the third surviving son of Emanuel Scrope Howe, 2nd Viscount Howe, and his wife Mary Sophia Charlotte, the daughter of Johann Adolph von Kielmansegg. William entered the British army as a cornet of dragoons in 1746.
