Eleftherios Kyriakou Venizelos ( Ελευθέριος Κυριάκου Βενιζέλος) was probably the most prominent politician in Greece’s Modern History. Born on the 23rd of August 1864 in Chania, Crete, he was the fifth child of Kyriakou Venizelou and Stylianis Ploumidiaki.
The airport is named after Elefthérios Venizélos, the prominent Cretan political figure and Prime Minister of Greece, who made a significant contribution to the development of Greek aviation and the Hellenic Air Force in the 1930s.

[1] [2] [3] He was the Prime Minister of Greece from 1910 to 1920 and again from 1928 to 1932.
