Another son, Prince Dietrich of Anhalt-Dessau (d. 1769), was also a distinguished Prussian general. But the most famous of the sons was Prince Moritz of Anhalt-Dessau (1712–1760), who entered the Prussian army in 1725, saw his first service as a volunteer in the War of the Polish Succession (1734–35), and in the latter years of the reign of Frederick William held important commands.

Dietrich of Anhalt-Dessau (b. Dessau, 2 August 1702 - d. Dessau, 2 December 1769), was a German prince of the House of Ascania and later regent of the principality of Anhalt-Dessau. He was also a Prussian Generalfeldmarschall.Dietrich was the third son of Leopold I, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau, by his morganatic wife Anna Louise Föhse.
Palais Dietrich (um 1925) Das Palais Dietrich ist ein Gebäude aus dem 18. Jahrhundert in der Zerbster Straße 35 in der früheren Altstadt von Dessau . Fürst Leopold ließ das Gebäude 1747 bis 1752 für seinen Sohn, Dietrich von Anhalt-Dessau (1702–1769), bauen.
Unmittelbar an den See schließt sich das Areal des Schlosses mit kleinem Park an, das vor 1750 in spätbarockem Stil unter Fürst Dietrich erbaut wurde. Großkühnau wurde somit zur Nebenresidenz des fürstlichen Hauses Anhalt- Dessau. Der heute von klassizistischen Formen geprägte Bau wurde um 1780 unter Prinz Albert umgebaut.
