Capito: Wolfgang Fabricius C. (latinisirt aus Koepfel), geb. 1472 zu Hagenau im Elsaß, † 1541. Er zeigte frühe eine ungewöhnliche Beweglichkeit und Vielseitigkeit des Geistes. Der Vater, ein ehrbarer Meister der Schmiedezunft (daher der Beiname Fabricius, den der Sohn sich gab) wollte nicht, daß er Geistlicher werde, welcher Stand ihm durchaus kein Vertrauen einflößte.

Wolfgang Fabricius Capito eller Köpfel, som föddes 1478 i Haguenau och dog den 4 november 1541 i Strasbourg, var en betydande reformator. Som präst i Strasbourg ledde han tillsammans med Martin Bucer reformationsarbetet där, och författade tillsammans med denne Confessio tetrapolitana och den så kallade "Berner-synodus", en ordning för lära och liv inom den reformerta kyrkan i Bern .

A professor of theology and advisor to the Archbishop of Mainz, he moved to Strasbourg and worked for two decades toward the reformation of the city, which became, after Wittenberg, the most active centre of the Reformation movement.

Leben und Wirken. Wolfgang Köpfle wurde 1478 in Hagenau im Elsass als Sohn des angesehenen Schmiedemeisters Johann Köpfle geboren. Später latinisierte er seinen Namen zu Wolfgang Capito mit dem Beinamen Fabricius, nach dem Beruf seines Vaters. Erste Ausbildung erhielt er in seiner Heimatstadt und später an der Lateinschule von Pforzheim.

He is a Graduate Fellow at the Centre for Reformation and Renaissance Studies and a PhD candidate at the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto.
