Gotthold Ephraim Lessing (1729–1781) ist einer der berühmtesten deutschen Dichter des 18. Jahrhunderts. Seine Zeit war philosophisch geprägt durch die Epoche der Aufklärung. Zu seinen bekanntesten Werken gehören die Dramen »Nathan der Weise« und »Emilia Galotti«.
