Elizabeth Cromwell was born at Hursley in Hampshire on 26 March 1650, daughter of Richard Cromwell and his wife, Dorothy Major. [1] In 1653 her grandfather, Oliver Cromwell, who had been instrumental in ridding the country of the monarchy was made His Highness,1st Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland, and Ireland. She married Gregory Cromwell, 1st Baron Cromwell, son of Thomas Cromwell, 1st and last Earl of Essex and Elizabeth Wykes, before 1538. 2 She died in 1563.
