Karl Eugen (Württemberg) Karl Eugen (auch Carl Eugen; * 11. Februar 1728 in Brüssel; † 24. Oktober 1793 in Hohenheim) war von 1737 bis 1793 der zwölfte (seit 1744 regierende) Herzog von Württemberg. Während seiner mehr als fünfzig Jahre langen Regierung wandelte er sich vom absolutistischen zum aufgeklärten Herrscher.
Charles ( German: Karl Friedrich Alexander; 6 March 1823 – 6 October 1891) was King of Württemberg from 25 June 1864 until his death in 1891. [1] Charles I married Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna of Russia in 1846 and ascended to the throne in 1864. Despite their marriage, the couple had no children, likely due to Charles' homosexuality.

History Background. In 1737, then Duke of Württemberg Charles Alexander died leaving his nine year old Charles Eugene as duke prematurely. He was not yet old enough to rule the Duchy, so he was sent to be educated and study in the court of then King of Prussia Frederick the Great while the court of Württemberg was run by magistrates.

As Duke of Württemberg he moved the court back from Ludwigsburg to Stuttgart. He ruled over the duchy until his sudden death in 1737, and was succeeded by his nine-year-old son, Charles Eugene . During his reign, he employed as his financier the ill-fated "Jew Süss" , Joseph Oppenheimer, who was executed in 1738 for abuse of office during the reign of the duke.
