Verden (Aller) (in basso tedesco Veern) è una città abitanti della Bassa Sassonia, in Germania . È il capoluogo, ma non il centro maggiore, del circondario omonimo. Nel 786 venne eretta a capoluogo dell' omonima diocesi; la sede episcopale fu trasferita nel 1195 ma la cattedrale rimase a Verden. La diocesi venne in seguito soppressa.

The original indefenite form was rarely used so much so the definite form was interpreted as the indefinite form, hence the etymology.
