She was the daughter of Claude, 14 th Earl of Strathmore, and his wife Nina Cecilia Cavendish-Bentinck. They were a couple in whom old Scots’ bloodlines joined old English bloodlines, with a significant dollop of noble – even royal – Irish and Welsh DNA to add spice and flavor.
