Berkshire County is the westernmost county in Massachusetts; anything within Berkshire County is considered “the Berkshires.” It feels like the Berkshires are comprised of a southern part and a northern part. In the southern portion, popular towns to base in include Stockbridge, Lenox, and Great Barrington.

Great Barrington serves as the regional hub of the southern Berkshires and is the fastest growing medium-sized town in the county. Founded in 1766, the town quickly earned a reputation for being rebellious. On August 18, 1774, a mob chased Royal judges out of town, the first open resistance to British rule in America.
