Robert, Duke of Albany was the son of Robert II, King of Scotland and his first wife. He also served as regnant to two monarchs that came after his father, Robert III and James I.
Robert Stewart was the son of Robert II, King of Scots and Elizabeth Mure born 1339. [1] [2] Robert was created Earl of Menteith in 1361 and Earl of Fife in 1371. He served as Governor of Scotland from 1388 until his death in 1420. Finally, he was created Duke of Albany on April 28, 1398, Earl of Atholl September 2, 1403 and Earl of Buchan in 1406.

In 1398 Robert was created duke of Albany, a title which reflected his ambitions. Albany's guardianship was characterized by intermittent hostility towards England, consistent support (until 1418) of the antipope Benedict XIII, a growing commitment to the French alliance, and a ruthless elimination of political opponents.

Her fourth and last husband was Sir Robert Stewart, 1st Duke of Albany, who became Regent of Scotland from 1406 until his death in 1420.
