While Somerville boasts some charming 19th century architecture, the most attractive feature of the college’s grounds is its large open quad, filled with trees and flower beds. During the summer, there is nothing better than eating your lunch on the grass in the sun while watching people rush to their tutorials.

The first ladder below shows the position of Somerville Secondary College when all schools are ranked by their 2023 median VCE study scores (as published by the VCAA). If two schools have equal median scores, their VCE 40+ percentages are used as a tie-breaker.
Somerville College remained an all-female college until 1992, when its statutes were amended to permit male students and fellows to attend. The first male fellows were then appointed in 1993, with the first cohort of male undergraduates having been granted admission in 1994.
