Part of the appeal of these recodings of Fred and Ginger together, in their RKO films, is the "presence" that can only come from those original movie soundtracks of between 1933 and 1943. When you listen you are immediately trasported to the films with all the class and energy that exuded from them.

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers had long careers after they had ceased dancing together. Rogers went on to expand her range. She was an excellent comedienne, and in 1940 won an Oscar for her dramatic role in Kitty Foyle. Astaire appeared in over 40 movies, and unlike Rogers, he continued to dance.

In my opinion, the best Astaire – Rogers romantic dance scenes are in four of their films – Top Hat, The Gay Divorcee, Roberta, and Follow the Fleet.
