O'Sullivan was born in Boyle, County Roscommon, Ireland in 1911. She is the daughter of Mary Lovatt (nee Fraser) and Charles Joseph O'Sullivan, an officer in the Connaught Rangers who served in World War I. [1] Aside from Irish, she had some English and Scottish ancestry. [2]

Biografi. Hun blev født som Maureen Paula O'Sullivan i Irland og gik i skole, først i Dublin, senere i London, hvor hun i øvrigt blev klassekammerat med Vivien Leigh, samt i Frankrig . I Dublin mødte hun filminstruktøren Frank Borzage, som opfordrede hende til at lave en prøveoptagelse til filmen Song o' My Heart.
Maureen O'Sullivan was a fresh-faced beauty with flowing brunette locks, and an often bikini-clad curvaceous figure. In a long acting career of 64 years and comprising over 60 films,her best known role by far was as the heroine, Jane, in six of Johnny Weismuller's Tarzan films during the 1930's and early 1940's.
