To become a monk of Mount Angel Abbey, one must be a single male, a high school graduate, 21 to 45 years of age, and in good physical, mental, and spiritual health. He must be a Catholic Christian, baptized, confirmed, and practicing his faith through regular reception of the sacraments, daily prayer, and involvement in his parish community.
It stopped and dropped us off across from the Abbey coffee and gift shop. I disembarked and walked up to Romanesque-style Abbey Church. It was almost noon. The time of the next Mass there. I entered the church and picked up a few fliers, a copy of the winter 2018 Mount Angel Letter, and a couple St. Benedict Holy cards.
