7 de oct. de 2015 · The first reference to the sword in the stone is to be found only in the prose redaction of Robert de Boron’s Merlin. Of the original poem only some five hundred lines survive. Considering that, and the way scribes could elaborate on their sources, we can not now be sure whether the sword in the stone featured in Robert’s own work or not.
But when each man took his turn, the sword did not budge. “Let the lad try now,” said the Duke of Cornwall. “Arthur, go ahead.” Arthur stepped up to the stone again - in one motion, he freed the blade. This time, he held the sword high above his head. The blade flashed in the sun. Amazed, the crowd did not know what to think.
