Harriet Tubman, born as Araminta "Minty" Ross, was born into slavery around 1822 on Anthony Thompson's plantation in Dorchester County, Maryland.She was the fifth of nine children of Ben Ross and Harriet "Rit" Greene [2] [3] [4] Her parents had married around 1808 after their respective enslavers had married, bringing them into the same household.
