A member of the Liberal Democrats , he took the seat from the Conservative Party after the former prime minister Theresa May stood down for the 2024 parliamentary election.
After being laid in state at the Royal Academy, his body was led to St Paul’s Cathedral in a grand procession, in which members of the academy participated. Joshua Reynolds is often described as an early forerunner of modernism.
