Augustus De Morgan ( Madurai, India; 27 de junio de 1806 - Londres, 18 de marzo de 1871) 1 fue un matemático y lógico británico nacido en la India. Profesor de matemáticas en el University College de Londres entre 1828 y 1866; y primer presidente de la Sociedad Matemática de Londres.

De Morgan biographical information tracing his career from its Arts & Crafts beginnings in stained glass at Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Co. to his own tile works and his marriage to Pre-raphaelite painter Evelyn Pickering, a follower of William Morris's closest friend, Pre-Raphaelite painter Edwad Burne-Jones, and touching on their shared interest in Victorian Spiritualism.
The eldest of seven children, William de Morgan was born in 1839 and showed early promise as an artist. During his formal education at the Royal Academy Schools he met influential artists like Simeon Solomon and Henry Holiday. In 1862 Holiday introduced de Morgan to William Morris, Morris & Co. being only two years old at this point.

De Morgan, a pacifist, expressed her horror at the First World War and South African War in over fifteen war paintings including The Red Cross and S.O.S. Relative to artistic pursuits, money was unimportant to the De Morgans; any profits from sales of Evelyn's paintings went toward financing William's pottery business and she actively contributed ideas to his ceramics designs.
