Thomas, 6 e baron Fairfax de Cameron (né le 22 octobre 1693 – 9 décembre 1781) fut le seul pair de la Couronne ayant effectivement résidé dans l’Amérique coloniale. Depuis sa propriété de Greenway Court (Virginie) , Fairfax y administrait ses vastes plantations de Northern Neck — concession de la Colonie de Virginie accordée en 1649 aux barons Culpeper.

Fairfax did not pursue his peerage until 1798, while on a business trip to England. The previous Lord Fairfax, his cousin Robert, had died in 1793. [citation needed] After his death in 1802, his widow sued his executor, but the Supreme Court found for the executor in 1809. His son Thomas Fairfax became the 9th Lord Fairfax of Cameron.
