Le monastère de Ghélati (en géorgien : გელათი) se trouve près de Koutaïssi dans la région d' Iméréthie dans l'ouest de la Géorgie. Il fut fondé en 1106 par le roi David IV de Géorgie qui y est enterré. Le monastère fut longtemps l'un des grands centres culturels et intellectuels de la Géorgie.

Other architectural monuments of Gelati Monastery are of 12th and 14th centuries. These are:the Academy, Church of St. George, interior of which was painted in XVI century, a two storied building of the Church of St. Nicholas and bell tower, one of the oldest in Georgia. Gelati Monastery was also a burial vault of Georgian Kings.
Many years Gelati Monastery was a cultural and educational center of Georgia and had its own academy. This Academy employed a lot of scientists, theologians, philosophers, orators and translator, many of whom had previously been active at various orthodox monasteries abroad, one of which was the Mangana Monastery in Constantinople.
