4 de may. de 2023 · She was proclaimed Queen from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace 15 January 1972, by Prime Minister Jens Otto Krag. Queen Margrethe II relinquished all the monarch's former titles except the title to Denmark, hence her style "By the Grace of God, Queen of Denmark" (Danish: Margrethe den Anden, af Guds Nåde Danmarks Dronning).
Margrethe was not born to be monarch, even though she was the eldest child of the Crown Prince, later King. At the time of her birth, only males could ascend the throne of Denmark. The act of succession was changed in 1953. Her father King Frederik IX died in 1972, and Queen Margrethe II became the first female Danish Sovereign.
In 2017, Iceland’s Presidential couple was on an official state visit to Denmark with both HM Queen Margrethe and the then Crown Prince and Crown Princess as hosts. In connection with the state visit in 2017, His Excellency was awarded the Order of the Elephant and since 2022 has the President’s personal coat of arms hung in the Knight’s Chapel at Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød.
