9 de may. de 2024 · Robert Rauschenberg (born October 22, 1925, Port Arthur, Texas, U.S.—died May 12, 2008, Captiva Island, Florida) was an American painter and graphic artist whose early works anticipated the Pop art movement. Rauschenberg knew little about art until he visited an art museum during World War II while serving in the U.S. Navy.
Lot Essay. Robert Rauschenberg’s Untitled belongs to a select group of silkscreen paintings created between the Fall of 1962 and late Spring of 1964. These paintings developed the ideas laid out in Rauschenberg’s transfer drawings, in which he applied newspaper and magazine imagery directly onto the paper surface.
Robert Rauschenberg's engagement with photography began in the late 1940s under the tutelage of Hazel Larsen Archer at Black Mountain College in North Carolina. This exposure (or experience) was so great that for a time Rauschenberg was unsure whether to pursue painting or photography as a career.
