The Southern Baptists, among other denominations, have congregationalist polity, which means that all significant decisions, such as acceptance of members, ordination, etc. are made exclusively by the local parish.
Because of this relationship between the congregations and the association, Unitarian Universalist congregations have a congregationalist polity of governance. However, day-to-day decisions are made by the president, the moderator, and the board of trustees.
An episcopal polity is a hierarchical form of church governance ("ecclesiastical polity") in which the chief local authorities are called bishops. The word "bishop" here is derived via the British Latin and Vulgar Latin term *ebiscopus / *biscopus, from the Ancient Greek ἐπίσκοπος epískopos meaning "overseer".
