In 1968 he recorded " The Windmills of Your Mind ", the theme tune from the film The Thomas Crown Affair, which won that year's Academy Award for Best Original Song.

The haunting single had received a boost when it was featured prominently in the Steve McQueen film The Thomas Crown Affair one year earlier, and thanks to the exposure, the single hit number eight on the charts in Britain.
Noel Harrison (29 January 1934 – 19 October 2013) - son of the British actor Rex Harrison, actor and a member of the British Olympic skiing team in the 1950s - recorded the song after Andy Williams passed on it: according to Harrison: "It was recorded live on a huge sound stage at Paramount, with the accompanying film clips running on a giant screen and Michel blowing kisses to the orchestra."

On October 19, 2013, Noel played a gig in the village of Black Dog in Devon. Following a long drive home he had a heart attack and was taken to hospital.
