Historie Royal Academy. Akademiet ble grunnlagt som en rival til Society of Artists, Samfunnet for kunstnere, etter en uenighet i ledelsen mellom de to ledende arkitektene William Chambers og James Paine, en strid som sistnevnte gikk seirende ut av.
