Carlton House était un palais situé aux abords de St James's Park, à Londres. Construit par l'architecte Henry Holland , il est à partir de 1783 la résidence de ville du prince régent , le futur roi George IV , et est démoli en 1825 .
The house in Carlton House Terrace next but one eastward from the Duke of York's Column was the residence of Mr. Gladstone for some years before and during his premiership, in 1868–74. Curiously enough, it was occupied for a time, some thirty years earlier, by another Prime Minister, the late Earl of Derby, then Lord Stanley.
Carlton house was demolished and the present Carlton House Terrace (actually two terraces) was later built, designed by John Nash. Between them is the Duke of York's Column (reviewed separately). They are in beautiful stucco-clad classical style with columns, friezes and pediments and the rear overlooks The Mall and St James's Park.

The house had been given to the Prince in 1783 when he came of age and he had remodelled and furnished it at immense expense.
