Edvard Munch was an Norwegian painter who lived from 1863 to 1944. He was one of Modernism's most significant artists, and his tenacious experimentation within painting, graphic art, drawing, sculpture, photo and film has given him a unique position in Norwegian as well as international art history.
Edvard Munch, prononcé [m u ŋ k] Écouter, né le 12 décembre 1863 à Ådalsbruk (Løten en Norvège) et mort le 23 janvier 1944 à Oslo [1], est un peintre et graveur expressionniste norvégien. Edvard Munch peut, a posteriori, être considéré après l'exposition berlinoise de 1892, comme le pionnier de l' expressionnisme dans la peinture moderne.

Edvard Munch is born on 12 December 1863, the son of Christian Munch, a military doctor, and his wife Laura. He spends his childhood in Kristiania, today’s Oslo, where the family lives on his father’s meagre doctor’s salary. When Munch is five years old, his mother dies from tuberculosis.
