She is the eldest child of Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Västerbotten, and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and the eldest sister of King Carl XVI Gustaf .
Princess Margaretha. Margaretha Désirée Victoria was born in 1934, and is the oldest daughter of Prince Gustaf Adolf and Princess Sibylla. Margareta studied ceramics and textiles at Nyckelvik School. She also trained as an occupational therapist at Karolinska Hospital. Margaretha married the British businessman John Ambler (1924–2008) in 1964.
