29 de may. de 2022 · HMCS Margaret Brooke, launched in November 2019, is the first Canadian combat ship to be named after a woman. Navy Lt.-Cmdr. Brooke was a Royal Canadian Navy nursing sister during the war.
Margaret Martha Brooke was born on April 10, 1915, and spent her youth on the family’s remote Saskatchewan farm. From an early age, three things were abundantly clear about Brooke: she was hard working, bookish, and deeply caring. People commented on her empathetic nature – she always prioritized the needs and welfare of her family and peers.

Her brother Hewitt and his wife, Marian, also both served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. Hewitt was a surgeon and Marian a nurse. Margaret Martha Brooke enrolled as a Nursing Sister Dietician on March 9, 1942 at the rank of Sub-Lieutenant.
