Princess Anna of Hesse and by Rhine was the consort and second wife of Friedrich Franz II, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, married 4 July 1864. Less than a year later, Anna died of puerperal fever when she was just 21, a week after giving birth to her only child, the future Duchess Anna of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
