Henry Carey (c. August 26, 1687 – October 5, 1743), was an English poet, dramatist and song-writer. He is remembered as a brilliant anti-Walpolean satirist and a patriot. His ability to compose simple, catchy popular tunes has meant that several of his melodies have continued to be sung to this day, and as a musician he was widely praised in the generation after his death.
