Louis V, surnommé « le Fidèle » (der Getreue), est né le 24 septembre 1577 à Darmstadt et mort le 27 juillet 1626 près de Rheinfels. Il est landgrave de Hesse-Darmstadt de 1596 à sa mort. Biographie. Louis V est le fils aîné de Georges I er de Hesse-Darmstadt et de Madeleine de Lippe.

In 1722, Johann Georg Liebknecht , an astronomer at the University of Gießen, named a star, which he thought was a planet, Sidus Ludoviciana after Ludwig V.
