This portrait of Antoinette of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld is a copy after the pastel portrait by J.H. Schroeder of c.1795 which forms part of a set of Francis Anthony, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, his Duchess and his children, at Schloss Callenburg, Coburg (exh. Coburg 1997, no. 1-19, repr.). Herbert Luther Smith was commissioned to make copies after the pastels for Queen Victoria.

Princess Charlotte Sophie of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, Duchess in Saxony (24 September 1731 – 2 August 1810) was a German duchess. She was the daughter of Franz Josias, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld and Princess Anna Sophie of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .
Princess Charlotte was the only child of George IV and Caroline of Brunswick. This portrait is by the Swiss artist Alfred Chalon who was famous for his luxurious depiction of fabrics. It was probably painted shortly after Charlotte’s marriage to Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld in 1816.
