Field Marshal Montgomery is wearing the beret and jumping jacket of the Parachute Regiment. His scarf is similar to those worn by British paratroopers when they were dropped in Normandy on the night of 5 - 6 June 1944.
Field Marshal Peter Anthony Inge, Baron Inge, KG, GCB, PC, DL (5 August 1935 – 20 July 2022) was a senior British Army officer. He was the Chief of the General Staff, the professional head of the British Army, from 1992 to 1994. He then was Chief of the Defence Staff before retiring in 1997.
The current Chief of the General Staff is General Sir Patrick Sanders, who succeeded his predecessor, General Sir Mark Carleton-Smith, in June 2022. In 2024, he will be replaced by Lieutenant General Sir Roland Walker, who is currently serving as the Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff. [1]
