  1. 25 de feb. de 2023 · Charles Howard, 1st Earl of Nottingham, was an English statesman and Lord High Admiral under Elizabeth I and James I. He was chiefly responsible for the victory against the Spanish Armada in 1588 that saved England from invasion by the Spanish Empire. Howard was also a member of the House of Commons and served as Ambassador to France in 1559. He was born in 1536 and died on 14 December 1624.

Howard himself had already sat for Surrey and Sussex in the late Elizabethan period.
