In order to create a need for a superhero, Amazing uses his alter ego, the billionaire lawyer Lance Hunt, to argue for the release of the insane super-villain Casanova Frankenstein (Geoffrey Rush). Dr. Anabel Leek (Lena Olin) is Casanova's prison psychiatrist and also advocates for his release. Leek loves Frankenstein secretly.
‘Mystery Men’ is one of those films that dips in and out of various genres. Personally, I’d call it a ‘satire of the superhero genre.’ Now, I enjoy both DC and Marvel’s current crops so I like to think I’m well up on the various conventions and clichés associated with the genre.

Last saw Mystery Men probably 1999/2000 depending on when the DVD came out. I didn't think much of it then and my opinion 20+ years later really hasn't changed. Now the movie has its moments I guess and I did chuckle a few times but otherwise I found it pretty dull in spite of the spectacle finale (topped off with late 90s effects).
