But with original material all from the organist's pen, and the covers—Ornette Coleman's "Check Up, Paul Simon's rarely covered "Night Game and the Gilberto Gil/João Donato standard, "A Paz — chosen by Yahel, this is clearly his show.

At the group's core is Sam Yahel, with whom Redman began composing, performing, and recording (with Brian Blade on drums) in 2002. Playing with Jeff Ballard on drums, Redman and Yahel have toured throughout several major U.S. cities.
Reception. Matt Collar of Allmusic wrote "Once again featuring the expansive keyboard talents of Sam Yahel, saxophonist Joshua Redman's Momentum features more of the '70s-influenced jazz the former "young lion" experimented with on 2002's Elastic.
