Gustavus (Lingít: Wanachích T’aak Héen) (gus-TAY-vəs) is a second-class city in Hoonah-Angoon Census Area in the U.S. state of Alaska. The 2020 census population was 655, [7] which represents a 48% increase over the 2010 census of 442 [6] and is one of the fastest growing communities in Alaska.

He was known in his lifetime as “the Lion from the North”, “the Protector of Protestantism” and “the Deliverer of Germany”. His timely intervention stopped the onward march and devastation caused by the Catholic League and the Austrian Empire.
The reason for this is because Gustavus has become the internationally recognized "Gateway to Glacier Bay National Park". The entrance to the park along with the Glacier Bay Ranger Station headquarters and official Glacier Bay Lodge (the Park's only licensced concessionaire), is located in beautiful Bartlett Cove- just 9 or so miles from Gustavus central.
