Lupe Vélez is excellent in Lady of the Pavements. She’s a kinetic, comedic force in lovely gowns. The plot centers around a “joke” that a disaffected wife is playing on her hapless husband. She pays a singer from a sleazy night club to be trained up as a lady in order to fool the husband into falling in love with a “common.”
